About me

I learnt to knit many moons ago, but started knitting seriously when my first child was born and was in hospital a lot. Colour is my passion but I couldn’t find the colours or combinations that I wanted in commercial yarn so dyeing my own seemed like the logical next step! I started to get orders from friends and Longdendale Yarns was born.

I live in a beautiful part of the Peak District, just a few hundred yards from the edge of the National Park, and with great views all around. The colours of nature inspire me in all their variety and seasonality, and much of that finds its way into my work. I hope you enjoy it too and feel that you have a little bit of the Peaks with you in my yarn.

Yarn

If you would like more than one skein in a particular colourway, a colourway on a different base yarn, or a custom dyed project please contact me.

If you would prefer to receive your yarn in a ‘cake’ rather than a skein please request this when you order.

All my yarns are individually hand dyed with non-toxic dyes. They are made and stored in a pet free, smoke free home. I re-skein my yarns after dyeing to give you a better idea of how they will look knitted up, and so that I can identify any problems with the skein (for example lots of knots, though there may be one or two). Whilst I make every effort to ensure the colours are represented accurately there may be some variation from what you see on the screen as all monitors are different. All weights and lengths are based on the supplier’s information and are given as a guide only.

I wash the skeins several times to remove excess dye but I recommend that you wash it separately the first time or two in case any more comes out. Apart from Peaknaze sock yarn all my yarns are handwash only, but I recommend handwashing for all knitted garments for the best results.

Sometimes other products may be available which are made with my hand dyed yarn or with photos of it. These will all be listed in the shop.

Postage, packing, delivery and returns

My preferred method for payments is using Paypal; a Paypal account is not required to use Paypal and the site will guide you through the payment process. I also accept payment by BACS and cheque, and by cash on delivery for local pickup.  Where cheques are used products will not be dispatched until the cheque has cleared which can take some time, and for this reason I don’t recommend this method of payment.

UK postage is by Royal Mail second or first class as selected at checkout, and I do my best to get parcels out within three days of payment being received. I do recycle packaging in an effort to reduce waste and be kind to the planet so please do not be offended if your parcel comes in used packaging. Any new packaging I use is recyclable if at all possible.

I want you to be happy with your order, so if you have any questions please contact me before leaving reviews. If you wish to return an item, please contact me within 7 days of receipt and return the item within 14 days. Return postage is at the buyer’s expense except where the item is defective and this was not pointed out in the sale specifications. I recommend that you use Recorded Delivery for returns.
